HoopFocus Player Rankings (2019)
As anticipation grows for the upcoming basketball, the Kansas City metro area is filled with high level talent. The first installment of the HoopFocus player rankings features the Class of 2019.
2020 and 2021 are coming in the following days. The rankings are based upon the results of the 2018 AAU season with last years high school season also taken into account.
#1 Christian Braun, Blue Valley North West (CG/F)
Christian Braun is coming off an impressive summer in the EYBL that earned him a commitment to the University of Kansas, along with several other high major offers. The MoKan Elite guard plays with a high level of confidence. Braun heads into the upcoming season as the best player in the Metro and a top candidate for the DiRenna Award. He looks to capture another State Championship for heavyweight Blue Valley Northwest.
#2 Roman Wilson (F/C)
Another MoKan Elite kid, Roman Wilson is a tough rebounder that plays the game with a lot of passion. His ability to run the floor, pick and pop at 6’10”, and crash the boards makes Wilson an intriguing prospect for college coaches. He defends the rim at a high level already and looks to keep adding to his offensive package.
#3 Joshua Earley, Bishop Miege (F/C)
Joshua Earley plays with a mean streak, which is a good thing. Early makes guys the same size as him look small, and uses his frame well to get rebounds against players taller than him. Early played in the Under Armor circuit with KC Run GMC and is committed to Northern Kentucky. Early looks to continue to prove why he’s one of the top bigs in the Metro.
#4 Javaunte Hawkins, Lees Summit North (PG)
The quick and shifty MoKan Elite guard can do it all from the point guard position. Hawkins uses his great handle of the ball to play the game at a fantastic pace. He creates shots for himself as well as others and he finishes consistently at the rim well for his size. He looks to continue to lead Lees Summit North.
#5 Lamel Robinson, Park Hill South (CG)
Lamel Robinson pound for pound might be the best player in the metro. A ultimate competitor, Robinson is a scoring point guard who can put up a lot of points in a hurry. He’s also an elite defender that will guard anybody 94 feet. Robinson played with Team Rush this summer and is committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha. He looks forward to the upcoming season where he and running mate Desi Williams look to win a lot of games for Park Hill South.
#6 Darrius Hughes, Rockhurst (F)
Darrius Hughes plays for Rockhurst and played with Team Rush during the summer. Hughes can do it all at 6’7” and should be one of the best players in the Metro this upcoming season.
#7 DeAndre Sorrells, Grandview (CG)
DeAndre Sorrells is a winner. The Guard knows how to win whether it’s a state title with Grandview or Final 4 at Peach Jam with MoKan Elite. The best shooter in the metro looks to improve to his already impressive resume.
#8 Desi Williams, Park Hill South (PG)
A true floor general. Desi Williams may be the best true point guard in the Metro. Coming off a good summer with KC Run GMC, Williams looks to lead Park Hill South to good fortunes with Lamel Robinson.
#9 Amauri Pesek-Hickson, Blue Valley North (CG)
At 6’2” Pesek-Hickson is a big physical point guard that has a great frame. He defends well and uses his athleticism to create shots. Coming off a great summer with Iowa’s Beyond Ball, Amauri looks to lead Blue Valley North to a potential state title.
#10 Clarence King, Lawrence (CG)
Clarence King of KC Run GMC is a fantastic defender with the ability to play hard 24/7. King has a good pull up jumper and nice touch around the rim. He’s looking to lead Lawrence High School this year to State.
#11 Spencer Jones, Bishop Miege (CG/F)
#12 Noah Butler, Free State (CG)
#13 Trey Quartelbaum, Lawrence (CG)
#14 Glen McClintlock, Rockhurst (PG)
